The key to falling in love with your home this year

To trend or not to trend? The art of loving your Space without the hype

Chances are you’ve come across influencers in your social feeds eager to share design trends for 2025–after all, trend forecasting is a hallmark of this time of year. But do trends really matter? How much do we care about what everyone else is loving, doing, wearing, or painting their walls?

Here at SPDi, trends aren’t a focal point of the solutions we create. YES, they play a big influence on the furniture, hard and soft finishes we see (especially fabrics, wallpapers etc..) but no matter which way the wind blows, we are always guided and inspired first by our clients – what motivates them, what’s working for them and what isn’t, and, most importantly, who are they when they occupy a space that is designed for them to live their best lives.

Love the versatility of shiplap? Go for it. Appreciate the sense of calm that Japandi evokes? Carry on! For me, the point of trends is to encourage you to look at things in a different way - as creatively as possible. Even in fashion, bell bottom jeans that made it from the 70s to the 90s and back again are all based on the same idea, just slightly tweaked, not reimagined.

This month, we’re showing love to some of the lasting ideas that have stood the test of time over decades in the industry. Here’s what’s setting our hearts aflutter.

Get in the mood

Contrast, deeper colour hues, patterns (organic and geometric) and natural wood tones are breaking up the monotony of white on white on beige on white. Like some of our two and three-tone kitchens, which pair light and bright with rich wood tones or vibrant colours and sleek cabinetry, creating an atmosphere as fresh and invigorating as your morning brew.

Moody, bold shades like Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year, Mocha Mousse, and Benjamin Moore’s Cinnamon Slate, are bringing warmth and sophistication. But if you never really understood how one colour could get all the glory, you may appreciate Sherwin Williams's approach, releasing their first ever Colour Capsule of 9 hues for 2025. We also love a good colour drenching (think trim, walls and ceilings) to create a moody, sexy vibe.

Go au naturel

Natural and natural stone, particularly marble and quartzite, continues to reign supreme. And with protective technologies like zero-care and anti-etch treatments, these beautiful natural tones, textures and movements have found a place in dynamic designs across the globe. We love the way Mother Nature’s creations can instantly contemporize a space while transporting you to a bygone era. These natural works of art easily become the chef’s kiss feature from which everything else is drawn.

Finding beauty in every curve

This wouldn’t be complete without a quick shout out to curves. We love how soft corners and curved archways in furniture and architecture have gained more favour with the general public (makes it easier on us creatives to convince you it’s the right move ;) and allows us to make a statement from floor to ceiling even in small powder rooms like this one) .

Rather than focus on interior design trends to try or avoid, we hope we’ve inspired you to follow your heart when designing your space. Our bold design move for 2025? Forget trends, love your space.

XO Cynthia
